JASON MACFARLANE - DIRECTOR, DP, Producer, Creative director, editor, photographer

Jason was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and left for the west coast to attend film school at UBC and Vancouver Film School while professional snowboarding. Days after finishing school Jason moved to London, England and took up residency at the Sony Digital Film Makers Workshop where he took part in the birth of the digital film movement. In London, Jason worked with a diverse group of artists and musicians shooting and directing music videos and creating live concert visuals.

Returning to Toronto in 2001, Jason integrated himself into the Canadian film industry, assistant producing and assistant directing for many of Canada's top commercial production companies and producers. This led to the opportunity to start a new production company with two other partners called Soft Citizen, with the goal to create a breeding ground for young Canadian talent creating innovative and original commercials, branded content and music videos. Soft Citizen has grown to be one of Canada's most exciting production companies with a world-class rooster of directors and building alliances with companies in Los Angles and London, England.

The whole time Jason has continued to grow and work extensively as a director, directing commercials, music videos and doing creative direction for various TV shows including full broadcast design. Jason has worked and directed commercials for many world-renowned brands like MTV, Toyota, Canadian Club, Nike, Microsoft, Adidas, Hudson's Bay Company, Shaw, Rogers, CBC, OLN, Lindt and Natrel. Fully rebranding the Canadian Paralympics for the Vancouver and London Olympics. Creative directed and help develop Plan Canada's award winning “Because I'm A Girl” campaign, that notably, in December of 2011, Plan Canada and the Government of Canada successfully convinced the UN to create the first International Day of the Girl.

Jason's work has been showcased in many worldwide publications like ResFest, Boards and Applied Arts among others. Known for his stylish and well-crafted visual storytelling skills, organizing and coordinating shoots through pre production, production and post production. Jason continues to demonstrating an ability to meet deadlines and nurture long term client and agency relationships.

Often shooting, editing and doing visual effects, Jason has created a unique language, visual style and skill set for himself. This has allowed Jason to take on many diverse projects, recently starting his latest company Assignment TV. With little to no overhead Assignment TV offers full media solutions. Creating a new model of production harnessed by years working in the industry, this includes development and a completed pilot script for an 8 part episodic series called 1978. Jason has recently completed his first short film, shot as a teaser for his 1978 series.
